would you do this?

I tweeted this link earlier today — the Edgewalk, the latest thrill experience out there. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to dangle like that over the edge of a building. I’m all for thrill rides at amusement parks and would even love to skydive some time. But I think this might be where I draw the line.

Or just call me a coward…

So would you do this?

on my mind

- our family is once again adjusting to what life throws at us. Colin was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on May 19th. He joins his little sister . We’re praying for a cure.

- the kids are out of school and summer has begun. miss those days of having a three month break to do nothing!

- with summer, I’m hoping to catch up on my growing stack of books to read. Want to pick up a copy of Kyle Idleman’s new book, Not a Fan. What are you reading this summer?

- digging the design re-fresh of our local Panera Bread Co. This is my place to get away and write and create. Problem is I want something from the bakery any time I come.

- cannot believe this crazy weather. A tornado in Massachusetts? Not something I ever thought I’d see when we lived there.

- Joplin MO is dear to my heart. This is where I went to college and met my wife, and where my inlaws live. Cannot believe the destruction that took place there. It’s going to be a long road ahead. The city and its people continue to be on my mind. Thankful for what this church is doing there.

what’s on your mind this Friday afternoon?

christmas compassion

Earlier in the fall we sent in a little extra to provide a Christmas present for our Compassion child, Collins. It wasn’t a huge amount but the bit we sent in will be used to purchase gifts for him and the others in his village to receive some gifts this Christmas.

Maybe you’d like to do a little something extra this Christmas. The Gifts of Compassion Catalog is a way to do that.

No crowds, no lines, no stress – just a gift that will help make a difference in the life of a child living in one of the poorest communities of the world. These gifts help provide clean drinking water, medical treatment, disaster relief, food supplies and much, much more for Compassion-assisted children and their families. Meet real needs and bring real joy with a Gift of Compassion.

Gifts include mosquito nets, soccer balls, chickens, goats, water filters, farm equipment, clean water and more. Gift prices range from $10 to $5000.

We pray for Collins regularly that God will bless him and his family…and that this Christmas, he will know that a family on the other side of the world cares for him.

Our little sacrifice makes all the difference in his world.

Merry Christmas Collins!

on my mind

just a few things on my mind as we head into the weekend.

  • THANKSgiving, living, loving is this Sunday. It’s going to be a great time for us as we put together all these things for Operation Christmas Child, foster care kids and local families.
  • November is Diabetes Awareness Month. If you want to know more about how you can help to find a cure, visit JDRF.com. The Artificial Pancreas project is fascinating and very promising.
  • definitely have enjoyed the weather this week. I think we’re back to reality tomorrow. oh well…here comes winter.
  • discovered UncommonGoods.com this week. really cool stuff. makes great gifts!
  • speaking of gifts, In His Hands Orphan Outreach has put together a Christmas catalog of needs for Ugandan orphanage. In His Hands was started by a member of RCC. If you’d like to know how you can help or purchase items, click here.
  • it always feels great when you walk out the door and miss the first step, roll your ankle, have to bite your tongue because the kids are with you, then have to drive the van home using your right foot which is the same one you rolled. can you say ice and advil?

bowling

if I still had hair I’d definitely be sporting this haircut after watching this video at Catalyst this past week. They even offered free ‘bowl’ haircuts outside the arena! Hilarious!

$10 for 10-10-10

Did you know that for $10 you can provide safe water for someone who has never had it??

Gifts of Water is inviting you to join us in a very special initiative called the TEN Challenge!

Here is how it works:

  • $10 = the Gift of Safe Water for 1 person
  • Give your $10 by texting WMI to 85944 – giving online – or by mail to: Water Missions International at P. O. Box 31258, Charleston, SC 29417
  • Getting 10 friends to give $10 each = 10 more people getting safe water

And the challenge begins TODAY!

Be a part of this amazing campaign to bring clean water and the good news of Jesus to 250,000 people by Christmas 2010.

This was the dream of one of my fellow Dream Year members! Love your dream Jerry!
