in the Christmas spirit.
Ethan hasn’t hidden his joy of the Christmas season. Lights outside. Lights in his room. Listening to the Disney Christmas cd repeatedly.
Last night, he serenaded us with his rendition of Jingle Bells…kinda.
Merry Christmas!

friday on my mind…
these are a few of the things that are on my mind this friday…
- I had to have a root canal on Thursday. not too bad but I’m not anxious to do that again anytime soon!
- it was fun to see so many people check out A Few Things I Like this week. Just a fun site I started during November.
- I’m excited that Front Porch Creative is working on some projects with Inner City Mission and Rochester Christian Church.
- maybe it’s me, but the Subway commercials with the office workers with kids voices is just weird.
- Ethan, one of our 4 year olds, is in love with the Christmas lights. He gets more excited with each home in our neighborhood that is decked out.
- started our Advent countdown with the kids that includes a devotional time and then the Playmobil Advent Calendar.
- Christmas music is in full-swing in my iTunes. Enjoying Amy Petty and She & Him. Still need to get Hillsong Christmas. What’s on your Christmas playlist?
the last day of November
and with it, we are two years in with Aubrey and her type 1 diabetes diagnosis. six months for her older brother, Colin.
I know more about T1 that I ever dreamed I would. two of my children have an illness I knew very little about. it’s definitely been a learning experience.
each day is a new adventure. we learn more. we make adjustments. and we help them live as close to a normal life as possible.
I can say that I am so proud of both of them. they are rock stars. they each handle this disease with incredible bravery.
they say we are closer each day to a cure. and with that I am hopeful. and prayerful. for my two kiddos…and the many others out there that live with T1 each and every moment of their days.
this is the last post for diabetes awareness month. to learn more about type 1 diabetes and how you can help find a cure, visit JDRF.
world diabetes day
today is world diabetes day.
Over 300 million people worldwide have diabetes now. If nothing is done, this will rise to 500 million within a generation.
Something must be done.
A cure must be found.
Obviously this is something dear to our hearts as we have two children living with type 1 diabetes. Would you consider being a part of the cure.
Visit JDRF for more information on how you can help.
on my mind
- It’s diabetes awareness month. Today and each Friday this month I’m wearing blue for diabetes. “Real men wear blue.” Doesn’t have the same ring to it…
- Have you signed the Artificial Pancreas petition to help those living with diabetes yet?
- I’m shedding some extra pounds via Weight Watchers. Am now down 8 pounds!
- Started a couch to 5k training to help with the weight loss…and to get back in the routine of running. Enjoying it.
- I may not stop at the 5K. May take it further. Anyone want to join me?
- My Amazon wish list keeps growing with all the good music that’s come out recently. Christmas is coming, hint, hint!
- Have you checked out GILT yet? Use my link to get access.
- November is the month of not-full-school-weeks for my kids. It’s crazy how many days off they have in November.
- Is it really November already? Let the Christmas music begin at the mall!
- Launched a new site this week. A collection of things I like. Check it out and spread the word.
A Simpler Way
A Simpler Way is a a piece I wrote for this week’s Christian Standard magazine.
I would love some feedback on their site. Thanks in advance!
november is diabetes awareness month
The month of November is diabetes awareness month. And with two of our four children living with type 1 diabetes, I want to see a cure. Through the work of JDRF and the ADA, great research is taking place…and many believe a cure will be seen in my kids lifetime.
Diabetes affects our family every single day. It’s 24/7 for us. But we have learned how to manage it…and our kids have too. They do amazingly well handling it each day. This is one proud dad of his two T1 kids.
So what is one thing you can do today to help? Simple. It’s easy. Sign the online petition to let the FDA know that the Artificial Pancreas is the closest thing we have to a cure at this time. And it could save countless lives. I’d love to know if you sign it. Let me know in the comments below.
I’m going to share more throughout the month about how diabetes touches our family each day.
Now go and sign that petition!
friday on my mind
just a few things on my mind from this past week…
- received this amazing piece in the mail this week about Joplin MO. Great job OCC!
- Colin was at church camp this week. Tuesday had a heat index of 109°. He had a great time despite the heat. Much better at it than I am!
- did I mention that Lynda went to camp also? Was staff, teaching, leading a family group and dorm mom. Also to help Colin manage his diabetes — first time at camp post diagnosis.
- ordered the BookBook for my iPhone… I can already tell I’m going to love it.
- listening to the new Mat Kearney album. I love his stuff.
- been thinking about how i’m going to set up my home office. learned of these egg crates from Sam. may need some.
- recently got my first iPad (i’m usually a much earlier adopter than this!). got my basic apps loaded. what else do I need?
things are a changing…
for those of you who haven’t heard, I recently announced that I’m leaving the staff of Rochester Christian Church in order to focus full-time on Front Porch Creative.
It’s been three years since we moved back to Rochester, my hometown, to the church of my childhood. And those three years have been a wonderful experience. I am so thankful for the chance I’ve had to work alongside an amazing ministry staff team. I know God has great things in store for the future of RCC.
I’m so grateful for the friendships we’ve made along the way. And the great part is that we don’t have to say good bye those relationships. We will be staying here in Rochester. We’ll continue to make RCC our church home. Lynda will be going full-time at St John’s Hospital. And Colin and Aubrey are already designing my home office in the basement!
I’ll be making this transition at the end of August. I’m excited for this new season of helping the local church in new ways. And grateful for the encouragement and support of our church leadership and staff as I take this step.
